How Many Express Entry Invitations Are Left in 2026? Here's What the Latest IRCC Data Really Means
One of the most common questions I receive is:
"How many Express Entry Invitations to Apply (ITAs) are left this year?"
The short answer is no one knows the exact number.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) does not publish a yearly quota for Express Entry invitations. Instead, it announces permanent resident admission targets and holds invitation rounds throughout the year based on Canada's immigration needs.
While there isn't an official number of ITAs remaining, there is another report that provides valuable insight into what may happen in future Express Entry draws.
The Report Most Applicants Don't Know About
Every few weeks, IRCC publishes the distribution of Express Entry candidate scores.
Although it may sound technical, it's actually very easy to understand.
Imagine the Express Entry pool as one giant line of people waiting for an invitation.
This report tells us:
How many people are currently in that line.
What their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores are.
How many people are ahead of or behind different score ranges.
The latest report shows approximately:
These numbers change after every Express Entry draw as candidates receive Invitations to Apply, new candidates enter the pool, and existing candidates update their profiles.
Why Is This Report Important?
The report helps us understand how competitive the Express Entry pool is.
For example, if there are many candidates with higher CRS scores than yours, it may take longer before your score becomes competitive.
On the other hand, if the number of high-scoring candidates begins to decrease, future CRS cut-off scores may also begin to fall.
While no one can predict future draws with certainty, this report provides one of the clearest snapshots of the current Express Entry landscape.
The Biggest Takeaway From the Latest Report
Nearly 1,800 high-scoring candidates left the Express Entry pool in just two weeks, largely because they received Invitations to Apply. When IRCC removes candidates faster than new high-scoring applicants enter the pool, CRS cut-off scores may gradually become more accessible.
The newest report contains encouraging news for many applicants.
Just two weeks earlier, there were approximately 20,953 candidates with CRS scores above 500.
The latest report shows that number has dropped to approximately 19,136.
That means nearly 1,800 high-scoring candidates have left the pool, largely because they received Invitations to Apply.
This is exactly what many Express Entry candidates hope to see.
When IRCC removes candidates through invitation rounds faster than new high-scoring candidates enter the pool, CRS cut-off scores may gradually become more accessible.
Although there are no guarantees, this trend is generally considered positive for applicants waiting for future draws.
So, How Many ITAs Are Left This Year?
Since IRCC does not publish this information, we can only make an informed estimate.
As of early July 2026, approximately 91,000 Invitations to Apply have already been issued through Express Entry.
Based on Canada's 2026 Immigration Levels Plan, historical invitation patterns, and the number of invitations already issued, it is reasonable to estimate that IRCC may issue approximately 135,000 to 145,000 ITAs during 2026.
If that estimate is correct, there may still be approximately:
Estimated Total ITAs for 2026Approximate ITAs Remaining135,00044,000140,00049,000145,00054,000
It's important to remember that these figures are estimates, not official IRCC numbers.
Does This Mean You'll Receive an ITA?
Not necessarily.
The number of invitations remaining is only one part of the picture.
Whether you receive an Invitation to Apply depends on several factors, including:
Your CRS score.
How many candidates have higher scores than you.
The size of upcoming Express Entry draws.
Whether IRCC conducts general, Canadian Experience Class, Provincial Nominee Program, or category-based draws.
How many new high-scoring candidates enter the pool before the next draw.
For this reason, two applicants with similar CRS scores may have very different outcomes depending on the timing of the draws and the categories IRCC chooses to invite.
What Should You Focus On?
Instead of worrying about the exact number of invitations remaining, focus on improving the parts of your profile that you can control.
Depending on your situation, this may include:
Improving your English or French language test scores.
Gaining additional skilled work experience.
Completing further education.
Exploring Provincial Nominee Programs.
Determining whether you qualify for a category-based Express Entry draw.
Even a relatively small increase in your CRS score can significantly improve your chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply.
Final Thoughts
While no one can say exactly how many Express Entry invitations remain in 2026, the latest data suggests there are still tens of thousands of invitations likely to be issued before the end of the year.
More importantly, the latest Express Entry pool distribution provides valuable insight into how competitive the system is today and how it may change in the coming months.
